It all started off inocently enough... 2 year olds put down to have a lunch time sleep... I listened over the baby monitor to them sweetly talking about mermaids and splashing under the water. The talk continued, the noise got louder. After an hour it finally went quietly and I thought I had won. Turns out they had just unplugged the monitor. Not long after Fern is screaming and bashing down the door. I look in and can't see Amber anywhere. Then notice a lump under the blind on the very high window sill (Thank God for security screens!). Lift the blind up to find Miss Innocence Amber sitting there reading a book and smiling at me :)
After releasing them from their room I later walk into the toilet to find toilet paper everywhere and Amber quickly doing a runner. She hides in our room listening while I tell Fern to pick it up. "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" She shouts. Sometimes it's hard not to laugh.
Later on I try and play a game of snap with Elijah. A new concept to him. He wins the first hand, but when I snap up the 2nd, he loses the plot, screams, throws the cards and runs away shouting and slamming things. After a bath I try again, same thing, only this time he is screaming just at me dealing out the cards...Maybe he is not quite ready? Earlier on he was so proud as I had taught him how to climb the tree and onto the cubby.
You win some you lose some and you never quite know what you're gonna get around here.

Story time at the library and other futile activities
So I decided to have my 3rd attempt at story time at the library, with my 3 quiet, well behaved 2 and 3 yr olds... Call me crazy, but I thought hey, they just might enjoy sitting down with a super engaging librarian, listening to a story and participating in a complicated craft activity.
As all the other mothers sat with their 1 child and some with swelling belly's containing that next child (they have no idea how their calm little universe is about to change), I chased my very energetic (trying to be nice) 3 around the library as they pulled things off shelves and shouted loudly to one another across the quiet room (while those swelling mum's looked on in horror). The librarian's futile effort to tell them the rule about no running made me realise the error of my ways. We swiftly grabbed an activity card to do in the safety of our own home and the 2 toodler leashes from the car.
Cheeseburgers at the local hamburger shop were my next brilliant idea! "Eat in?" "Sure" I answer... ha ha ha... Elijah is nearly 4 and can actually sit down and eat a burger. As Fern and Amber pulled on their leashes and knocked over tables, the owner looked at me sympathetically and offered to make it takeaway :)
Well, I can only keep trying and maybe one day tasks like a library visit, lunch or grocery shopping might become easy? But even in my crazy little world, I can't help but sit back, smile and enjoy the chaos my 3 energetic and gorgeous creations enevitably bring to the world. I really wouldn't have it any other way.
